MANILA--Global continued its quest for a record-equaling third league crown in a convincing fashion, as it made a mincemeat of a free falling Laos 8-0 on Saturday.
A first half brace by skipper Misagh Bahadoran was enough for Leigh Manson's men as they jumped to a tie at the top of the table with JP Voltes with six points apiece but came a goal short.
Apart from Bahadoran, two other starters and three second half substitutes were also on Global's score sheet, as Michael Atienza suffered the least glorious honor by scoring the first own goal of the season.
Despite winning by a huge margin in a virtual one sided affair, the Scottish gaffer admitted that they missed an opportunity to go on top of the league, but they have another shot by taking on the leaders and Loyola in a space of three days next week.
"The challenge for us is to demand them to play our highest [standard]," the Scot noted, adding that they fielded
a young squad for this, giving debuts to academy standout Andreas Esswein and youth national team skipper Mark Winhoffer, with the latter scored his first league goal just seconds after he came on for OJ Clariño.
"They've done what we wanted: is to win two games out of two," Manson concluded.
