MANILA--In what could be one of the weirdest bookings in Philippine combat sports history, a MMA match was made out of a bar brawl.
The URCC announced on Tuesday that a fight between actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos at their upcoming URCC Fight Night at the Palace Pool Club in Taguig is on.
URCC President Alvin Aguilar, who himself was an actor who guested in some episodes of the late 90's action series Pintados, made a public invitation to both Geisler and Matos to settle the score between them inside the cage at the press conference of the said event at the Maxims Hotel in Pasay on Monday.
Hours after the presser, Matos, who does indie films, accepted the challenge, while Geisler, who was a child and teen star during the turn of the millennium, followed suit the day later.
Baron Geisler, in a viral video posted on Monday, was seen doing taekwondo training along with his brother Donnie, a two-time Olympian, giving an initial hint that he has also said yes for the June 25 clash.
The setup to the Geisler-Matos match stemmed from a certain incident where both actors were involved in a heated argument during a fundraising event that turned into a fistfight. A video of the said melee went viral last week.
Baron Geisler then issued an open challenge to Matos in an interview with TV5, dropping the line, "Mahal kita, pero bibigwasan kita."
Geisler is not that new to being in viral brawl videos as the week prior, a video where he was seen fighting a student also became the talk of the town.
