Hot start propels Mapua past Letran

SAN JUAN, MM--A 39-point first quarter was all Mapua needed to take down Intramuros neighbors Letran, 104-94, in their FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup showdown at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Saturday.

The Cardinals pulled the shocker against the defending NCAA champions Knights early on after going for a 39-21 first period and fended them off the rest of the game.

CJ Isit fired 23 points with six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, while reigning NCAA MVP Allwell Oraeme added 16 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, and six blocks for Mapua, which recovered from a tournament-opening loss to Lyceum on May 4.

Rey Nambatac Letran, which tied Mapua at 1-1, with 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.
