MANCHESTER--Leicester missed out on automatically clinching the Barclays Premier League title but inched closer to eventually claiming it by a 1-1 draw on the road against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Anthony Martial appeared to have put a dent to the visiting club's title hopes with an eighth minute attack, but Wes Morgan canceled the opening goal with an 17th minute score to the delight of the Leicester fans.

Chris Smalling nearly gave United the lead back, but his header in the 79th minute only hit the post, giving Kasper Schmeichel a sigh of relief.

However, Leicester got a scare when Danny Drinkwater was handed a red card following a hard foul against Memphis Depay in the 87th minute just at the edge of the penalty area.

Man U had one final chance at the death, but Schmeichel stopped the strike with a beautiful clearance.

Leicester, now up by eight points against Tottenham for first place with two matches left, is now within two points of clinching its first-ever first division plum.

Leicester can secure the championship with draws in their remaining two matches against Everton next week and Chelsea on the final day or either a draw or a loss by Tottenham in one of its last three outings. Tottenham visits Chelsea on Tuesday (Philippine Time).
