Marist ousts San Sebastian as City Hoops champs with huge blowout

QUEZON CITY--Marist dethroned San Sebastian as PhilHealth-City Hoops Preseason Cup U-15 Division champions in the most fashionable way possible, a devastating 98-42 rout in the stepladder playoff opener at the AFP Wellness Center on Monday.

The Golden Bears opened the game with a double-digit spread and immediately turned the match into a laugher, stunning a Staglets side which was still reeling from the loss of one of its key players who went down with a leg injury during the quarterfinals on Sunday at the CCP Gym.

Marist will take on Ateneo Blue in the championship game on Saturday at the West Greenhills Gym in San Juan.

The win of Marist's U-15 team avenged their U-13 counterparts' loss to San Sebastian in a semifinal played earlier Monday.

The U-13 Staglets downed the U-13 Bears, 71-64, to earn the right to face AMA's U-13 Titans in their own final also on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ateneo SBP romped San Beda-Alabang, 56-35, in the U-12 semifinal to set up a final with La Salle Greenhills.

The last semifinal to be played, the U-17 playoff between Ateneo Prada and AMA, is ongoing as of posting.
