PASAY--Former eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao scored another win--this time in the political ring.
Pacquiao, the incumbent Sarangani congressman, was officially named as a Philippine senator after COMELEC proclaimed him on Thursday among the 12 winners of the senatorial elections held on May 9.
The boxing legend got 16,050,546 votes in the final and official results for senators as per the national canvass at the PICC, good enough for seventh place.
Pacquiao will join four other proclaimed winners as first-time senators, namely former TESDA Director Joel Villanueva, Congressmen Riza Hontiveros and Sherwin Gatchalian, and former DOJ Secretary Leila De Lima.
Pacquiao, who announced his retirement following his win over Tim Bradley on April 10, vowed that he will be present in Senate sessions once he takes his oath.
