SAN JUAN, MM--UP posted its first string of wins in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup after repulsing CSB, 67-58, at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Saturday.
The Fighting Maroons slowly but surely recovered from an ugly start to get their second straight victory.
The still winless Blazers actually had an early shot for an upset after leading, 18-10, after the first period.
But the Maroons limited them to only nine points in the second quarter and 11 in the third as they took the lead for good in the second half.
Dave Moralde tallied 14 points and five rebounds, while Diego Dario added ten points, five rebounds, and one assist for UP, which made up for a dismal offensive game with a stifling defense that forced CSB to commit 28 turnovers.
Christian Fajarito had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds with one assist for CSB, which slipped to 0-4.
