MANILA--In a bizarre twist to start Thursday in Philippine basketball, UCLA announced that incoming rookie Kobe Paras left the team.
The 6-foot-7 high-flying wingman, who was among the Bruins' highly-touted recruits, failed to meet the said US NCAA powerhouse school's admission cutoff for freshmen according to the academe's statement.
The news deemed surprising since the son of PBA legend Benjie Paras was an honor student at Cathedral High School despite juggling time with Middlebrooks' basketball team, but UCLA's high cutoff in SAT, the college preparedness test used in American high schools, took a toll for the younger Paras.
The development, on the other hand, could pave the way for the Batang Gilas standout to move to another US NCAA Division 1 school or go back to the Philippines to play a potentially starry local college hoops career.
