Ateneo clinches first FilOil semis berth after ousting Perpetual Help

SAN JUAN, MM—Ateneo bucked a slow start to eliminate Perpetual Help, 68-59, in the first knockout quarterfinal of the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Tuesday.

The Altas started the game on a 12-1 run, but the Blue Eagles answered with their own 15-1 rally to take a 16-13 lead early in the second period.

The game remained tight for the remainder of the first half and most of the second half before a 7-0 run anchored by crucial free throws that signaled Ateneo's breakaway.

Adrian Wong scored eight of the Eagles' 11 first quarter points before ending up with 13.

Chibueze Ikeh and Anton Asistio each added 12 points for the Blue Eagles, who will take on the winner of the La Salle-FEU game in the semifinals on Friday. The said quarterfinal will take place later Tuesday.

Bright Akhuetie finished 15 markers for the Altas but was limited to only three points in the second half.
