MANILA--Canada's bid for one of the remaining three spots in the Rio Olympics basketball competition gets a huge blow as Andrew Wiggins opted to skip the FIBA OQT at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on July 5-10.
In a statement on Saturday (Philippine Time), he said that he consulted with his family and thought about it for quite some time before coming up with the decision.

Wiggins said that he will devote the rest of June and the entire month of July to build up for the Minnesota Timberwolves' 2017 NBA campaign.
However, Wiggins still expressed his 100 percent support for Canada, which will have rising star Cory Joseph and veteran Joel Anthony leading the way.
Canada, tagged as pre-tournament favorites, is grouped with Senegal and Turkey in Group A. The top two teams in the group will take on the top two of Group B, which has Gilas Pilipinas, France, and New Zealand in it, in the knockout crossover semifinals with the winners battling it out for the Olympic spot.
