MANILA--Global remained on top of the league after a clinical and straightforward 3-0 blanking over rivals Kaya to cap off the Independence Day fixtures late Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium
Leigh Manson's men are now five points clear of closest pursuers JP Voltes, thanks to Serge Kaole, Hikaru Minegishi and an own goal by Masa Omura, as the cup holders remain unbeaten for their fifth straight triumph in as many matches.
The Cameroonian right-back scored first eight minutes after the match began, as he received Milan Nikolic's header and he headed the ball in the far post past Matt Acton.
Kaya were left to rue their missed chances as they were on the backfoot for the entire match due to the fast pressing game Global made right from the opening whistle.
Minegishi doubled the edge of the two-time league champions three minutes into the restart, as he pounced on a bad clearance by Kaya skipper Aly Borromeo and tucked the ball away from a tight angle in the far post.
Global capped off their dominant display with six minutes left in the match, as Milan Nikolic thought that he got Matt Hartmann's cross, but was later credited as an own goal by Omura.
