FRANKFURT, Germany-- The Philippine pair of Gilbert Ulang and Alex Tagarao recored their first win in the PDC World Cup of Darts by defeating a more fancied United States side, 5-3 in the first day earlier in the morning.
Ulang and Tagarao recorded a three-dart average of 77.36 compared to the American pair of Larry Butler and Darin Young who had thrown at 72.35 in this doubles affair.
After being down by 2-3 in legs, Ulang hold their throw with a 49 checkout to even matters to kickstart their comeback try.
The former PhilMasters' champion then shoved the Philippines ahead against the throw with a single dart to double 20, and he sealed the historic win with a 16 checkout on double 8.
Ulang and Tagarao will face one of the favorites in third-seeded Netherlands composed of former World Champions Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld in the round of 16 later.
