AMA pummels hapless Mindanao to stay in semis race

PBA

PASIG--With the way their recent setbacks transpired, Mindanao somehow found a way to keep their PBA D-League Foundation Cup game against AMA close.

The Titans still pulled away.

AMA bucked a late second quarter scare and blew the game wide open for good in the second half to take a 109-84 win on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The Titans immediately opened a 13-point lead in the first quarter only to see the Aguilas, who came from two straight 50-point losses, cut the lead to just one at halftime.

AMA started the third period with a 10-0 run to reopen the double-digit cushion, but Mindanao would still come to as close as four later in the quarter.

A 9-0 run that spilled to the fourth quarter started the Titans' breakaway that helped them stay in the semifinal race.

Rashawn McCarthy and Ryan Arambulo each tallied 24 points even as Jay-R Taganas flirted with a triple-double after getting 17 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists for AMA, which only won for the second time this conference but can still sneak the semis if they win their remaining games and Tanduay loses its own fixtures left.

Dexter Garcia dropped 25 markers for Mindanao, which remained winless after nine tries.
