SAN JUAN, MM—Arellano University banked on a splendid fourth quarter to spoil Emilio Aguinaldo College’s upset ploy, registering an 88-82 win in the first game of Tuesday’s NCAA Season 92 basketball triple-header at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The Chiefs stepped up big-time behind
the efforts of Lervin Flores and Jiovani Jalalon to get back into their winning
ways after its stinging loss to San Beda last Friday.
Down 62-66 going into the final frame,
the Chiefs stepped up the gas. Zach Nicholls ignited a 10-2 windup with a lay-up
off a steal from Francis Munsayac for a 77-74 advantage with 4:19 left. Jalalon capped
off the run with his own steal-and-score to increase the gap to seven, 81-74.
The Generals however retaliated behind
a Munsayac lay-in and Joshua General split to come within a basket, 85-82, 42.5
seconds to go.
Jalalon then scored a clutch floater
with 24.2 ticks left, before Dioncee Holts splitted from the stripe to ice the
game.
Flores finished with 20 points and 15
rebounds along with two blocks, while Jalalon also scored a double-double
effort of 15 markers and 12 assists.
EAC, which fashioned a 21-9 salvo in
the second quarter, dropped its fifth consecutive outing in six games.
Cameroonian Hamadou Laminou topscored with 23 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks, while Jorem Morada and Sidney Onwubere contributed 17 and 16 points, respectively.
