PASAY--France ended up in Group A of the Olympic basketball tournament as a result of a draw late Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The said draw, which was made to assign the three FIBA OQT champions to the two Olympic groups, had France, which beat Canada for the final Olympic spot at the said venue, and Serbia, which won earlier Sunday in the Belgrade leg, joining perennial powerhouse USA, FIBA Asia winner China, FIBA Oceania champion Australia, and FIBA Americas runner-up Venezuela in Group A, setting up a potential "group of death".
Croatia, which won the FIBA OQT in Turin, was actually drawn first and ended up in Group B, which has host country Brazil, FIBA Americas winner Argentina, FIBA Europe finalists Spain and Lithuania, and FIBA Africa champion Nigeria.
