With Radge Tongco and AC Soberano taking charge, the Lions extended its undefeated record against the Generals with a 91-76 triumph to stay unbeaten in Season 92 of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Tuesday.
The injury of team skipper Dan Sara hardly affected the Lions’ offensive, as the boys of coach Jamike Jarin fired 31 third-quarter points, 18 coming from Tongco and Soberano, for a commanding 71-56 advantage going into the final canto.
The Generals responded quickly in the middle part of the fourth, with Francis Munsayac drilling six in the team’s 8-0 run to trim the gap to 12, 63-75, still 6:29 left in the game.
From then on, it was all San Beda, as Soberano hammered the final nail in the coffin with his fifth three-pointer with 33.9 seconds remaining.
Tongco and Soberano led the way with a combined 43-point output, while Potts, the hero of their first two outings, contributed 13.
The win is SBC’s 15th straight against EAC since the Ermita-based ballclub joined the NCAA in 2009. They also share top spot with Mapua, which earlier defeated Lyceum in the first game.
