Phelps impressive in debut as Phoenix gets first win under Vanguardia with rout of GlobalPort

QUEZON CITY--Eugene Phelps showed why he is called "El Destructor", taking the PBA by storm in his league with a 52-point explosion as Phoenix finally gave new coach Ariel Vanguardia a victory, a 120-107 trampling of GlobalPort at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night.

The Fuel Masters finally nailed a win in the Governors' Cup by ending the game against the Batang Pier with a 17-6 run to pull away for good.

Phelps, who replaced Marcus Simmons, fired 18-of-30 from the field and 15-of-21 from the foul line for his 52 markers while also tallying 16 rebounds and six assists.

Phoenix's other import, Lee Gwan-Hee, added 16 points, two assists, and one steal.

John Wilson was the top local scorer for the Fuel Masters with 15 points along with six rebounds, one assist, and one block.

Stanley Pringle and Mike Glover each tallied 27 points for GlobalPort.
