SAN JUAN, MM–At last, Jose Rizal University booked its first win of NCAA Season 92. And it’s all because of Paolo Pontejos.
Waking up from a dismal first two games, Pontejos fired 23 points as the Heavy Bombers made mincemeat of College of Saint Benilde, 86-56, in the final game of Tuesday’s NCAA Season 92 schedule at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
In the game they never trailed, the Bombers leaned on the hot scoring game of the third-year guard, as they opened the game with a blistering 22-6 start en route to its first victory after losing its first two outings.
Pontejos, averaging a measly eight points coming into this match, scored 18 of his total output in the second half, at the same time almost outscoring the entire CSB bench, which contributed just 29 points the entire ballgame.
Teytey Teodoro backstopped Pontejos with 15 points, while Abdel Poutouochi was the other double-digit scorer with 10.
JJ Domingo was the lone bright spot for the Blazers, losers of four straight games, with a 21-point effort.
