QUEZON CITY--San Miguel nearly blew a huge lead but still managed to hack out a 109-100 win against sister club Star in the nightcap of the PBA Governors' Cup doubleheader at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.

The Beermen quickly opened a double-digit edge and stretched it to as high as 20 points in the third quarter.

But come the fourth quarter, the Hotshots crawled back, using an 8-0 run to cut the lead to just five, 88-83, with 8:05 remaining.

San Miguel recovered in time and reopened the double-digit edge that the team protected until the end.

AZ Reid and Chris Ross each tallied a point-assist double-double with 34-11 and 14-10 respectively for the Beermen, who dished out 27 assists all in all.

Junemar Fajardo added a conventional double-double of his own with 28 points and 13 rebounds for them, who quickly got back to their winning ways after a stunning defeat to the Mahindra Enforcers on Wednesday.

James Yap led the Hotshots with 20 markers and four caroms.

Marqus Blakely, on the other hand, had a bizarre "triple-double" with 15 points, 21 markers, and ten turnovers. Star had 25 errors in total.
