Alora falls to Mexican foe in Olympic taekwondo match

RIO DE JANEIRO--Kirstie Alora, the last Filipino bet in the Rio Olympics, lost to Mexican opponent Maria Espinoza, 4-1, their 67-kilogram women's taekwondo clash on Saturday.

Espinoza drew first blood in the first round, but Alora kept her defense up the rest of the two-minute period.

Alora would equalize early into Round 2, but it was all-Espinoza the rest of the three-rounder as the latter moves on to the next round.

Alora, despite the loss, could still give the Philippines a bronze as she could be part of the repechage round, provided Espinoza makes the championship match.
