MANILA--Ateneo began its stint in Ang Liga on a high note, trouncing fellow UAAP squad, 2-0, on Sunday at the San Beda Football Field.

Samuel Lim drew first blood for the Blue Booters, runners-up in their mother league last season, in the 18th minute, while Jordan Jarvis capped the win with an 86th minute strike.

Meanwhile, last UAAP season's surprise package, UST-A, also hacked out a win in their own first assignment in Ang Liga against UB, 2-1.

Dexter Benecio clinched it for UST-A with his 66th minute goal that spoiled the Brahman's upset bid.

UB actually had an awful first half highlighted by Allyson Lopez's own goal in the 37th minute, but Jojo Nitro canceled the said UST freebie with his 63rd minute attack only that Benecio put UST back up three minutes later.

The eventual UAAP champs, UP, also impressed over the weekend as both their teams to Ang Liga won as well.

UP-A mauled CSB, 2-0, while UP-B rolled past UST-B, 4-1.

On the other hand, NCAA champs San Beda's two Ang Liga squads had contrasting results over the weekend.

San Beda-A fell at the wrong end of an upset by fellow NCAA member Lyceum, 0-1, but San Beda-B soundly beat MCL, 6-0.
