QUEZON CITY--Already out of contention in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup semifinal race, AMA still wants to end its stint in the season-ending conference with a bang.
James Martinez made it a bit sooner.
With still two matches at hand, Martinez provided the Titans' biggest moment in the Foundation Cup, shattering the league's scoring record and handing the Mindanao Aguilas a 125-76 beating at the JCSGO Gym on Tuesday.
The former UE gunner dropped 58 points, way higher than the previous record of 41 set by Phoenix's Mac Belo last conference, on ten triples to lift AMA to its third win in four nights.
Martinez did not actually have a good start as he only tallied a single point in the first quarter, which ended with the game tied, 19-all.
But he began to sizzle just as the Titans began to pull away, scoring 13 each in the second and third periods and capping it with a 31-point onslaught in the payoff period, when they outscored the Aguilas, 44-12.
Gino Jumao-As tallied 19 markers for Mindanao, which is on the verge of getting blanked in the entire tournament.
