MANILA—Kaya squeaked past JP Voltes in an exciting encounter
to end the first day of the second round early in the evening at the Rizal
Memorial Stadium.
Louis Clark’s 16th minute penalty was the
difference between them in a fairly-matched contest, as the three-time UFL
champions ended the five-match winning run of their victims and got its revenge
on them after they were upset by the former playoff winners last month.
Chris Greatwich’s men kept their nerve on the defensive end the rest of the way to
prevent a repeat of last month’s meltdown for back-to-back wins to solidify their hold in fifth with 24 points, only a point behind Voltes in the table.
“I’m very happy with the three points. It is important that
we close that gap. I think the pattern of the game was very similar to our
first encounter with them. How we defended their set pieces was the difference
today, which was the reason why we get
all three points,” the former Azkals hero commented after the match
Dan Padernal’s official debut went on a wrong foot, as they
muffed several chances, especially at the restart to equalize and fell to
fourth with the loss after Loyola routed Forza earlier to overtake them at
third.

“The goal was unlucky for us, we have lots of attempts in the
second half but for me, it was a good game but the result is not good for us,” the
former Union manager said, added that all players must step up apart from
striker Takumi Uesato who did not play today, in preparation for Wednesday's tussle with Green Archers United
