Chiefs turn to Jalalon, Salado, subdue Bombers

SAN JUAN, MM--The "Bus Driver" and the "Dispatcher" are at it again.

Jio Jalalon and Kent Salado were at their scoring powers again as the Chiefs tightened its hold of the top spot with an emphatic 79-68 triumph opposite Jose Rizal University in the second match of NCAA Season 92 Tuesday festivities at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The potent Arellano duo combined for 40 of the team's total points, with Salado topscoring with 22 points and six rebounds, while Jalalon registered an all-around performance of 18 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, and three steals.

Donald Gumaru and Lervin Flores also steeped up for the Chiefs, winners of 13 of 16 outings, as the former cashed in 11, while Flores had seven and 11 rebounds, punctuated by a brilliant alley-oop dunk for the final nail in the coffin.

In total control the entire ballgame, the Legarda-based dribblers had a little scare when Paolo Pontejos and the Bombers chopped down its lead to just five, 69-64, 2:23 remaining. But it was all that the Kalentong dribblers could muster as the Chiefs answered with a 10-4 finale highlighted by the Flores slammer.

Pontejos fired a game-high 24 markers plus four rebounds and four assists, but his efforts weren't enough as the Heavy Bombers dropped to fifth place with a 9-8 win-loss record, with a game left in its schedule.

Jordan Dela Paz added 15 markers, while Abdel Poutouchi had 14 and 17 boards. Teytey Teodoro was the final double-digit scorer with 10.
