MANILA-- They can smell it now.

Global closed in on their dream Double when they sweep their season's fixtures against Green Archers United in the first of Sunday's doubleheaders here at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The league leaders needed just 16 seconds from Hikaru Minegishi to set the tone for the match en route to a 3-1 win over the seventh-placed GAU side, in which Arthur Kouassi (35') and Dennis Villanueva (60') duly helped the stellar Japanese winger with a goal of their own in either half as they remain unbeaten with their 13th win for 41 points.

Chieffy Caligdong pulled one from the spot three minutes into the second half to give the Archers a decent fightback but it was a case of too little too late for the Lasallian outfit when they slump to their seventh setback, 21 points adrift of the league leaders and are yet to beat the powerhouse side in the thirteenth time of asking.

Still, Global boss John Burridge remained cautious despite the win as they set their sights on Wednesday against JP Voltes, in which they only needed a point to all but seal their record equalling 3rd UFL League title.

"It's not over till its over as far as we concerned. We don't think anything else but our match against JP Voltes on Wednesday," the former journeyman goalkeeper said to Dugout Philippines after the match. He further heaped praise on their victims for being good on the counter and for giving them a decent showing despite their gap in the league table.

"The only disappointment that I can say today is that we missed a lot of chances and we did not put them [Archers] away, we could have won the game by 5,6 or 7-nil. Same as the Loyola game last week" lamented the Englishman, as he concluded that Wednesday will be the perfect opportunity for them to get the very first AFC Champions League spot for the country.
