MANILA--Twenty-three teams will battle it out in the 2016 season of the JML 7's, which will start on Saturday at the Eagles' Nest along the Southern Plains in Calamba.
The said tournament is expected to be exciting as the re-inclusion of the rugby 7's as an Olympic sport is still fresh in the minds of the rugby fans.
“It was brilliant to see rugby return to the Olympics this year in Rio.... It is even better to see so many teams entering in this year’s JML 7s League and to see that the sport is developing at a fast rate here in the Philippines,” said Jovan Masalunga, Head of Development for the PRFU.
The Alabang Eagles, who actually call the Calamba pitch their home, are expected to rule the cup division, where the top rugby 7's squads collide, while their female counterparts lock horns with CBRE-Makati, QCPU, and Miriam in the female division.
On the other hand, the bowl division is equally compelling as eight teams signed up for the said division.
Meanwhile, the plate division will see the return of the Makati Chiefs, gaffed by current Philippine Volcano Justin Coveney.
“I am looking forward to playing with my fellow countrymen on the domestic front, Philippine local rugby is shaping up to get better every year”, said Coveney.
The Circuit Makati grounds will also serve as a venue for the matches.
