Lions forces playoff for No.1, thwart Chiefs

SAN JUAN—San Beda forced a play-off for the top spot as it pulled off an emphatic 91-81 win over Arellano in the final game of the elimination round of Season 92 of the NCAA Friday at the FiOIl Flying V Centre.

 Behind the troika of Javee Mocon, Davon Potts,and AC Soberano, the Mendiola-based dribblers built a commanding 75-62 lead after three quarters,  while its menacing defence shackled ace point guard Jio 
Jalalon all game long as the team tied its victims with an identical 14-4 win-loss record.

This means there will be a play-off for the top seed, set to be played on Tuesday at 4pm.

Mocon issued a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds, Potts  added 18, while the hot-shooting Soberano scored 15 on 4-for-7 from downtown.

The Chiefs made a final push behind Jalalon, Zach Nicholls,and Kent Salado to trim the gap to 81-76, before Ben Adamos put the icing on the cake with a breakaway slammer, 16.4 ticks remaining.

Adamos finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Jalalon struggled offensively, scoring just 5-of-22 from the field for 14 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds, issued eight assists, and had a steal in 31 minutes of action.

Salado and Lervin Flores both chipped in 13 markers, while Donald Gumaru and Nicholls registered 11 and 10, respectively.
