Lions devour Altas, grab last twice-to beat bonus

SAN JUAN—San Beda grabbed the final twice-to-beat incentive in the next round after brushing aside Perpetual Help, 84-75, in the final game of Tuesday’s NCAA Season 92 action at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
The Red Lions scorched the Altas with 29 fourth-quarter points anchored on AC Soberano and Davon Potts as the Mendiola-based squad followed Arellano University in claiming a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four.

The Chiefs earlier blasted Mapua, 95-82, to snatch the first post-season bonus. The two teams will set to meet on Sept. 23, the last playdate of the elimination round.
After a tight third quarter where it trailed, 55-58, Soberano fired two consecutive triples for a 68-65 edge, before Potts and defensive specialist Robert Bolick canned in pivotal buckets down the stretch. Jomar Presbitero finally uncorked a backbreaking triple for a 10-point buffer, 82-72, with 29.5 ticks to go.

Soberano led the wards of Coach Jamike Jarin with 18 points backed by a 4-of-6 three-point clip. Potts finished with 15, while Javee Mocon had 14 points to go with his 13 rebounds.
Team skipper Dan Sara also stood out as he issued six assists while scoring six points.
Bright Akhuetie paced the Altas, which dropped to an 11-5 win-loss card, with a solid 29-point, 18-rebound game. Genmar Ylagan followed suit with 15, while Gab Dagangon struggled offensively despite submitting 11 markers.
