Perlas beat host Malaysia, stay undefeated in SEABA meet

MANILA--The Philippine women’s basketball team remains the only undefeated squad in the ongoing 2016 SEABA Championship for Women after downing host Malaysia, 77-73, Saturday evening at the Bukit Serindit Indoor Stadium in Malacca City.

The Philippines led by as many as 20 with a Janine Pontejos bucket, 71-51, 8:01 of the fourth period, victory within sight. The Malaysians tried to rally back, but time ran out on them.

Allana Lim led the way for the Pinay ballers with 16 points as Afril Bernardino came up with an all-around performance of 14 markers, ten rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks, the only two rejections in the contest.

Analyn Almazan was the other double digit scorer for the Philippines with ten, while also grabbing 12 boards.

With this outcome, Perlas officially reclaiming the crown they last won in 2010 and are just one win away from sweeping the competition.

PHL’s campaign in the tournament will be capped with a match against Thailand on Sunday night.
