MANILA--The Philippine women’s basketball team is making its return to the SEABA Championship for Women in grand fashion, walloping Laos, 179-32, at the Bukit Serindit Indoor Stadium in Malacca on Wednesday.

The Philippines raced to a 50-15 start in the first ten minutes, ending the half four points shy of the century mark. The Filipinas then limited the Laotians to 14 points in the second half to put emphasis on the onslaught.

Jack Danielle Aninam headed the Perlas Pilipinas with 28 points as seven others finished with 12 or more markers. All of coach Patrick Aquino’s wards scored at least five points.

Team Philippines shot 78/118 from the field (72/102 2pt FG, 6/16 3pt FG) and 17/28 from the freethrow line. The squad only had four fastbreak points, but it registered 120 points in the points, 82 points from turnovers, and 42 second chance points.

The Perlas also put up 67 rebounds, 36 assists, and 32 steals.

PHL is now 2-0 in the tournament after its 69-43 opening day conquest of Singapore. It will next face Vietnam on Thursday.

This is the first time the country is competing in the tournament after skipping the 2014 staging. The Pinays won the 2010 edition held in Manila.

Souktavanh Phanthalangsy ended up as the lone double digit scorer for Laos with 15 points.
