MANILA--It's "do or die" for Rain Or Shine as the club fights for its PBA Governors' Cup life in a crucial match-up against Star on Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

The Elasto Painters must beat the also-ran Hotshots in their 7 p.m. showdown to stay alive in contention for a quarterfinal berth as a loss will officially eliminate the E-Painters, giving the last outright quarterfinal spots to the Alaska Aces and the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

The Aces can actually clinch a quarterfinal spot by themselves with a win against the NLEX Road Warriors in another pivotal match-up at 4:15 p.m.

NLEX, following a computation of quotients done by Dugout Philippines on Thursday, is now assured of a spot in the next round, but its final seeding will depend on the results of the Friday doubleheader.

A win will give NLEX the sixth seed, while a loss could drop the team to as low as eighth depending on the ROS-Star outcome. The Alaska-NLEX game will actually determine which team will finish sixth after the eliminations.

For Alaska, however, a loss plus an ROS win will relegate the team to a showdown with Phoenix for the last quarterfinal spot, effectively giving ROS an outright quarterfinal berth as the seventh seed.
