MANILA--The league action resumed as Loyola and Global played out a goalless stalemate in a battle of league leaders late Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Stadium
Both teams failed to find the net after ninety minutes of entertaining football that mostly featured near misses and defensive brillance rather than the scores on the pitch.
The Sparks had their closest chance to go ahead was at the 29th minute, with the Phil Younghusband connecting with his brother James inside the box but the latter had his header clanked the crossbar.
Global had numerous chances as well to go 10 points clear ahead of their opponents but had their attempts either going wide of the target or in the hands of Gui Hasegawa, as Omid Nazari hitting the side netting thirteen minutes before full time the closest they got.
With Loyola failing to reverse the defeat to the league leaders last May 14, JP Voltes became the biggest receipient of that result as they formally overtaken them on second after a routine 3-0 win over a lackluster Forza side.
J Baguioro ended his scoring slump by firing a first-half brace to pace the former Division 2 regulars as they continue their surprising run this season for their tenth win. Ren Mantua added another one in the second half as they edged Loyola for their 32nd point on the table, one point ahead of the third placed side, yet they have played a match more.
