TAMPA--TJ Perkins, who traces his roots from the Philippines and is representing the country in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, won the tournament by defeating Gran Metalik of Mexico in the championship match on Thursday (Philippine Time).

Besting 31 of the best cruiserweight wrestlers in the world, Perkins had to beat notable cruiserweights like Johnny Gargano and Rich Swann to earn a spot on the live finale of the tournament.

In the semifinal match earlier Thursday, he made Kota Ibushi submit via a kneebar in a high impact match to earn a spot on the final of the tournament.

During the final match, he faced off against Gran Metalik in a back-and-forth match where he made the Mexican luchador tap via a kneebar submission to win the tournament altogether.

With his win, TJ Perkins took home the WWE Cruiserweight Classic Trophy, and is now also crowned new WWE Cruiserweight Champion, in time for the debut of the cruiserweight division on Raw on Tuesday (Philippine Time).
