PASAY--TNT put one foot on the top seed in the PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals after trouncing Star, 115-105, in the main game of the Sunday night doubleheader at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The KaTropa banked on a 39-point third quarter to repulse the already-eliminated Hotshots and moved to within a win from finally securing first place.
Jayson Castro and Larry Fonacier each chipped in 21 points for TNT, which can seal the top spot in the playoffs with a win against Ginebra at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan next week or a loss by the latter against Phoenix on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Joel Wright tallied 27 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals for Star.
