MANILA--The Philippines will enter the AFF Suzuki Cup as hot favorites, retaining their place as the top ASEAN side as FIFA released its updated rankings on Thursday.
Despite losing both matches to Bahrain and North Korea this month, the Azkals even moved up a notch to 124, with only Vietnam (136th) and Indonesia (179th) the other seeded sides who moved up in the ladder.
Thailand and Singapore, both four-time titlists, saw their rankings dipped drastically for this month, with the latter sliding down to their worst at 171, six spots behind qualifying round leaders Cambodia while the former went down 11 notches to 146.
Thomas Dooley's Azkals will face Kyrgyzstan (99th), who made it to the top 100, on Nov. 9 in Rizal Memorial before kicking off their Suzuki Cup campaign with the Lions ten days later in Bocaue.
Argentina are still the world's top team for the seventh consecutive month, with Germany, Brazil. Belgium and Colombia rounding up the top five.
