MANILA--In a surprising turn of events on Wednesday, Coach Yeng Guiao jumped ships from Rain Or Shine to NLEX.
In a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer's Musong Castillo, Guiao, who gave the Elasto Painters both of their two championships including the 2016 Commissioner's Cup title, informed co-owner Raymond Yu of his decision to join the Road Warriors, who despite having some promise two seasons in after buying the Red Bull-Shopinas-Air21 franchise failed to even make the semifinals of all the six conferences they participated.
Meanwhile, in another report by Spin.PH's Snow Badua, Guiao, as per people knowledgeable of the development, formally accepted the NLEX job on Tuesday night, taking over Boyet Fernandez.
Caloy Garcia, on the other hand, was named the new ROS chief tactician.
This will be the second time Garcia will call the shots for the E-Painters as he already took the head coaching job for them in 2008 following the departure of current San Miguel coach Leo Austria. Garcia was replaced by Guiao in 2011 but was retained to the coaching staff.
Garcia's appointment as ROS coach effectively means he has to let go of his coaching job at PBA D-League side Racal.
