MANILA-- Loyola gaffer Simon Mcmenemy was pleased in more ways than one after zapping bitter rivals Kaya when talked to the football press late Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

"It's alwas gonna be one of those games that a lot of convention, formation and tactics goes out of the window. It becomes who wants it more," the Scot stated in the post-match interview after the Sparks eked out a 2-1 win that ended their victim's chance of getting second place in their penultimate match of the season.

"That was came from sheer hardwork and effort. And I'm pleased that they've held on and deserved everything they got" Mcmenemy added, noting that apart from makeshift centre-back Anto Gonzales, he gave credit to last-minute replacement keeper Ace Villanueva when he made two huge saves that gave them three points.

The former Azkals manager quoted that they were focused on their encouter with Kaya rather than their final fixture against Stallion next week. "To have the three points today, is very satisfying, especially after some social media banter this week, which was interesting," he said, eliciting some laughter from the media.

Meanwhile, the minds behind the UP Fighting Maroons football program does not mind being the smallest centre-back in the match, saying that he has credited his excellent performance in his coaching experience.

"I just played through my strengths," Gonzales said.

Ace Villanueva stepped up big-time after coming on as a last-minute change to Gui Hasegawa.
Being called to start at the very last minute did not bother third-choice netminder Ace Villanueva at all, when he talked to Dugout Philippines after the match.

"Nung past week sa training namin, iniisip ko na mag-start ako. Naka-mindset na ako palagi, once na bigyan ako ng opportunity iga-grab ko. So tinake ko yung opportunity to show my performance," commented the UP custodian.
