MANILA--Kaya's quest to make a return to the AFC Cup got a huge boost after a 6-0 mauling of GAU in a UFL clash at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.

Also looking to build a huge goal difference that could help the club should a tie for second takes place, Kaya stepped on the gas early on with Junior Munoz burying the opening goal just five minutes in.

Jovin Bedic joined the early scoring barrage with Kaya's second goal in the 13th minute.

Julian Matthews made it 3-0 for Kaya in the 16th minute before Eric Giganto capped the goal spree for the club in the 20th minute.

The match somewhat slowed down from there, but that did not stop Robert Mendy from giving Kaya a 5-0 lead seven minutes from halftime.

Mendy sealed the final tally with his brace-clinching goal in the 55th minute.

Paul Salahit came close to putting GAU on the board as he struck one over Matt Acton, but he was called for offside, nullifying the shot.

Although Kaya remained fifth with 34 points, the club moved to within a point from Voltes for fourth place and four points from Ceres for second place.

Kaya will take on Loyola, another team chasing an AFC Cup spot, in a blockbuster match on Saturday night at the said venue.
