PTRL begins despite threat of "Karen"

By Ivan Saldajeno

MANILA--Not even Typhoon "Karen" can stop the Philippine Tamaraw Rugby League from kicking off.

The PTRL successfully launched its inaugural season despite the inclement weather brought by the storm at the Albay Sports Complex in Legazpi over the weekend.

The league began with Manila downing UB, 6-0, on a lone try by Michael Tome and the conversion by Benny Noki.

Central Luzon then blasted home squad Albay, 16-0, in a match that literally spilled to the next day.

The Crusaders led the Vulcans, 6-0, at halftime when the storm prompted the organizers to play the second half of Saturday's main game to Sunday, when the Crusaders completed the rout.

Albay bounced back with a 10-4 win over UB later Sunday, while CL eventually went up to 2-0 with a 4-0 victory over Manila.
