PASAY—Not the kind of rematch you’ll be expecting to see.
Far Eastern U turned in to defense all game long before posting a 59-48 win over the struggling University of Santo Tomas in the second game of Wednesday’s double-header in the men’s seniors basketball competitions of the UAAP Season LXXIX at the MOA Arena.
In the second meeting of last season's finalists, the defending champions limited the Tigers to its season-low scoring output to keep its firm grip at second place with its sixth consecutive victory and seven over-all.
UST continued its downward spiral as of late, dropping its fifth straight game for a 2-7 win-loss card.
Joe Allen Trinidad was the only Tamaraw in double figures with 14 points on top of three rebounds, but got ample help from a balanced supporting cast, with Raymar Jose scoring nine points and 14 rebounds.
Wendell Comboy and Richard Escoto chipped in eight apiece off the bench.
This is the second game this season that Coach Nash Racela’s squad limited its opponents to under 50 points, following the 49 it allowed during its first-round encounter with UP.
Captain Louie Vigil paced the Tigers with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds, even as Dean Lee added 12 markers and five boards.
Jeepy Faundo had a 10-point, 17-rebound performance for UST.
