Grasshoppers nail lone goal to win WB Tournament girls title

By Ivan Saldajeno

TAGUIG--Grasshoppers United took the U16 Girls Division of the Warren & Brown Tournament on Sunday at the British School Manila Football Fields in pulsating fashion, hacking out a 1-0 win against Kaya in the final.

The lone goal of the match came in the dying moments, just when everyone thought the game will go to a shootout.

On the other hand, Nomads beat BSM to take third place.

The host team, however, would take podium finishes in the other age groups with its U15 contingent winning it all.

BSM placed second in the U9 and the U13 divisions while placing third in the U7 and the U11 categories.

Loyola spoiled BSM's bid in the U9 and the U13 divisions by prevailing over the said school in the championship games.

Kaya prevented Loyola from claiming a third championship in the one-day event by winning in the U11 final.

Eaglets Blue would grab all the marbles in the U7 division.

The WB Tournament is a joint venture between Warren & Brown Technologies and Kaya FC Academy, arguably the most successful grassroots football program right now, as a means to further promote the sport to the youth.
