PASAY--The Phoenix Fuel Masters stunned the GlobalPort Batang Pier in a shocker on Wednesday night at the Cuneta Astrodome to end their 2016 with a win.
Phoenix's chemistry was the key for the team to come back from 26 points down to a 101-99 victory as they marched in to the third-spot tying the Blackwater Elite with a 4-3 record.
Veteran cager Mark Borboran tipped in a Simon Enciso trifecta miss with 2.1 seconds left in the last quarter before GlobalPort's Terrence Romeo also missed another three before the clock died.
"I just told them to play," Phoenix coach Ariel Vanguardia said. "We never quit and that's what important."
The rookie coach said that he dedicates this win to his late mentor Bong Go who passed on Tuesday.
Borboran made 12 of his total 23 points in the fourth quarter while also putting eight boards.
Phoenix' Gilas pick Matthew Wright was also hot-handed tonight dropping 19 points. Simon Enciso also contributed with 14 markers.
Terrence Romeo still battled and carried the team despite an off-outing. His team had the biggest twenty-six point lead.
The Batang Pier fell to a 3-3 record.
Everyone was expecting a GlobalPort blowout win until the Fuel Masters rallied and outscored the young franchise, 40-15 in the ending quarter.
