PASAY--The San Miguel Beermen were firing on all cylinders last Wednesday as they grabbed their fifth win in six games against the deadly Meralco squad, 101-86, at the Cuneta Astrodome.
They consistently grabbed the lead since they drew first blood on the opening chapter of the game until the buzzer ended.
The relentless win gave them the solo top seed as of the moment in the 2016-17 PBA Philippine Cup.
"We showed them tonight that we can play. Maganda ang magiging resulta kung consistent kami sa gusto naming gawin", the fiery SMB coach Leo Austria said.
US ambassador Sung Kim was also present in the crowd and he also initiated the ceremonial toss before the opening tip.
Crediting the likes of Alex Cabagnot, Chriss Ross, Marcio Lassiter and Arwind Santos, the elite firepower of the defending champs took control of the first twelve minutes, 32-13.
The Beermen blasted a 31-point explosion before concluding a fifteen-point victory.
The Bolts was able to come close within 9 but failed to make a comeback that may eventually become an upset.
'The Kraken' quietly dominated the game scoring another double-double, 11 points and 14 rebounds.
“June Mar made little noise offensively but he was there on defense,” Austria said.
