Star downs Phoenix through Saturday shredding

PASAY—Star stretched its newfound resurgence in PBA Philippine Cup with a 123-79 blowout against Phoenix in the lone Saturday night offering at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Supposed to be played at the Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod but had to be played elsewhere following the said arena's unavailability, the Hotshots pulled away for good late in the first quarter, closing the period on a 21-6 run and eventually led by as much as 53 points, 119-66, with 2:59 left in the game.

Allein Maliksi and Paul Lee each tallied 18 points for Star, which won its second straight rout.

Simon Enciso tallied 16 points for Phoenix.
