MANILA—In a neck-to-neck tight playoff race, everything can happen. An infamous PBA quotient rule could decide a team's fate in the tourney.
But what if a seven-way-tie actually happened? Who would be in or out?
So here's the scenario.
The Phoenix Fuel Masters bowed down to Alaska on Friday that made speculations about a possible seven-way-tie in the playoff seedings. Phoenix dropped to 6-5 while Alaska is at 6-4.
The seven-way-tie will happen if the Aces lose to Rain or Shine, Star lose to Mahindra, Barangay Ginebra winning against NLEX, Globalport pulling an upset to RoS and if TNT suffers a whammy to the first-seeded SMB.
Based on previous related results against each other, either Alaska or Star would grab the highest seed available if the destiny was drew that way depending on the results of the Alaska-RoS game.
They will be followed by either TNT or the Gin Kings. Either RoS, GlobalPort and Phoenix would seal the last non-twice-to-win spot while the remaining two grab the disadvantage. Blackwater wouldn't make the playoffs as they will remain at the ninth seed.
At this moment, only Phoenix, Star and TNT are sure of making the post-elimination round. Blackwater can now just hope that things would go their way. Meanwhile, Barangay Ginebra, RoS and GlobalPort have remaining games yet and still not sure of a playoff spot.
