MANILA -- Ateneo also followed La Salle's footsteps in going to the upcoming UAAP season with a bang, topping Hiraya for three goals without reply in the second of the Sunday tripleheader in the W-League tonight at the Rizal Memorial.

Nona Amoncio fired a quickfire brace late in the first half and Pam Diaz added another in the second half to power the Lady Eagles to just their third win of the season that will bode well for coach Jaypee Merida in the upcoming UAAP Season in two weeks' time.

The senior winger cracked Hiraya's scrappy defense in the 38th minute when she tucked in the rebound and then completed her brace two minutes later.

Camille Rodriguez had a drastic dip from last week's fiery performance but had an assist to Pam Diaz ten minutes after the restart to complete the rout, with Rianne Caparros getting a clean sheet in the process after surviving a late wave of Hiraya attacks.

Merida cannot hide his dismay to their team's form despite the win, in which that spelled bad news for them heading to the upcoming UAAP.

"Pero sa performance ng team namin, medyo disappointed ako, especially sa first half. Swerte kami sa two goals, pero di ko nagustuhan yung di pagperform ng team, di nila nagawa yung nasa plan," said the former Blue Booter who won the UAAP both as a player and as a coach in which he credited Caparros' improved goalkeeping later on.

"It wasn't our best, for sure. That's not the result that we wanted before going to the UAAP," Amoncio quoted, as Ateneo's opener in season 79 is a Katipunan Derby with UP.
