SAN JUAN-- De La Salle Zobel halted its six-game losing skid
in convincing fashion as it mangled University of the East, 81-59, in the first
game of Saturday’s UAAP Season LXXIX junior’s basketball action at the
FilOil-Flying V Centre Jan. 21.
Shan Exequiel Vesagas pulled off his best performance so
far, leading four others in double figures as the Junior Archers improved to a
3-7 win-loss record and get back to the groove after back-to-back second round losses
over UST in overtime (77-83) and National University (52-63).
The Taft-based boys led the first half, 36-29, but pulled
away in the second half with a 25-15 third quarter for a 61-44 lead and never
looked back since.
Vesagas came off the bench to produce a season-high 13 points while
shooting 6-of-9 from the field. Starters Martin Romero, Roberto Mariano and
Bryant Terrado all scored 12 points, while Raven Cortez chipped in 10.
The Junior Warriors fell deeper in the cellar with its ninth
loss in ten outings. Sean Manaug led the way with 13 points and 16 rebounds,
while Cruzette Gonzales had 12 and Dustin Angeles 11 along with four assists
and five steals.
