MANILA--Meralco just got a big boost after agreeing in terms with Chris Lutz on Monday.
The six-foot-three winger played with San Miguel thoughout his entire career, but the team sent him to the unrestricted free agents list to make room for big man Michael Mabulac as he has yet to fully recover from a back injury that sidelined him for the Philippine Cup, opening an opportunity for Meralco to bring him in.
However, Lutz, the third pick of the 2011 draft, is still expected to be sidelined for the rest of the conference due to the said injury as the Bolts fight for their tournament lives in their remaining two games.
Both the Beermen and the Bolts are currently at the opposite ends of the team standings as the former is on top at 8-1 and has clinched a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals and the latter is at the cellar with a dismal 2-7 record and is on the verge of getting an early boot after making a breakthrough finals appearance last Governors' Cup.
Lutz played impressively in his rookie season in 2012, but his numbers gradually slipped season after season.
He has career averages of 8.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.6 steal, and 0.1 block a game.
