LUCENA--Scottie Thompson, despite his small frame, has been known as a triple-double machine for Perpetual Help in the NCAA.

He somehow brought that game to the PBA with Ginebra, eventually becoming one of the top rebounders in the league.

“I am not surprised,” Coach Tim Cone told reporters at the Quezon Convention Center about yet another point-rebound double-double from Thompson in Game 2 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals against San Miguel on Sunday night.

But in a rare event for even a guard in the NBA, Thompson came close to a 20-20 point-rebound performance, finishing just one field goal and a couple of boards shy of it.

“He did not have a good first game and I knew he would have a good second game and we decided some plays that would get him going early. He had some good shots early to jump his game to another level. The guards are boxing him out but Scottie found a way to get around them and get some rebounds,” Cone shared how Thompson, who also came close with a triple-double by dishing out eight assists, got a great game.

Still, Cone is amazed at Thompson's game-high rebounding performance that he thinks he is a unique guard.

“Amazing. Amazing guy. There is nobody like him,” Cone praised Thompson.
