SAN JUAN -- Far Eastern U bounced back from a painful loss last Saturday as it walloped University of the East, 25-18, 25-22, 25-27, 25-11, in the first game of Saturday’s UAAP Season LXXIX women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil-Flying V Arena, Feb. 18.
With the bitter
memory of the five-set setback against Ateneo still fresh, the Lady Tams
dismantled the Lady Warriors in a blistering fourth-set display to improve its
record to an even 2-2 card.
The loss, meanwhile,
is UE’s fourth in as many games.
Bernadeth Pons led
the charge for Shaq Delos Santos’ wards, finishing with 17 points spiked on 16
kills, while Jerrili Malabanan contributed 15 including four service aces. Remy
Palma and Heather Guino-o both had seven.
Dropping the third
set in pulsating fashion, the Morayta-based spikers opened up the fourth with
an 8-2 advantage behind Pons and Palma. The lead swelled to 23-11, and they never looked back since.
The FEU missed the
services of hitter Toni Rose Basas, who rode the bench for unexplained reasons.
Shaya Adorador, who
engineered the stubborn UE stand in the middle sets, led the way with 12
points. Mary Anne Mendrez was the other double-digit contributor with 10.
